ACTIVATED BAMBOO CHARCOAL
Natural • Steam-Activated • South African Bamboo
Upset tummy? Nausea? Tummy bug? Diarrhoea?
Activated Bamboo Charcoal is highly porous and known for its adsorptive properties. When used appropriately, it may help bind certain gases and unwanted substances in the digestive tract, which may assist with occasional gas and bloating while supporting the body’s natural elimination processes.
Our Activated Bamboo Charcoal is steam-activated and derived from quality, cultivated bamboo grown in South Africa. It is harvested, processed and packaged in South Africa.

HOW MUCH ACTIVATED BAMBOO CHARCOAL SHOULD I TAKE?
The appropriate amount of activated charcoal depends on why it is being used, the person’s age and weight, and the particular product formulation.
For general digestive use, follow the dosage instructions supplied with your specific product.
For suspected poisoning or overdose, dosing should be determined by a healthcare professional or poison-information service. Do not use the general daily-use amounts as a substitute for emergency poisoning treatment.
Activated charcoal is not appropriate for every type of poisoning, medication overdose or toxin.
Children
Do not give activated charcoal to children for suspected poisoning or overdose unless specifically advised to do so by a healthcare professional or poison-information service.
Animals
For suspected poisoning in an animal, contact a veterinarian immediately. Do not administer activated charcoal based solely on a human dosage.
IMPORTANT: MEDICATIONS
Activated charcoal can bind certain medicines and may reduce their absorption.
As a precaution, take Activated Bamboo Charcoal at least 2 hours before or after oral medication, unless your doctor or pharmacist advises otherwise.
If you take important prescription medicines, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using activated charcoal.
FOR AN UPSET TUMMY OR DIARRHOEA
For occasional diarrhoea, tummy upset or digestive discomfort, mix ¼ teaspoon with water and drink. You can prepare a fresh dose every 10 minutes until you experience relief.
If symptoms are severe, persistent or accompanied by dehydration, blood in the stool, severe abdominal pain, fever or repeated vomiting, seek medical attention.
SUSPECTED POISONING OR OVERDOSE
Activated charcoal has established medical uses in certain cases of poisoning or drug overdose, because it can bind some substances in the gastrointestinal tract and reduce their absorption.
However, activated charcoal does not work for every poison or medication.
IMPORTANT
Suspected poisoning or overdose is a medical emergency. Seek professional medical assistance immediately.
Do not delay medical treatment while administering activated charcoal.
HOW ACTIVATED CHARCOAL WORKS
Activated charcoal has a highly porous structure and a large surface area.
It works primarily through adsorption, meaning that certain substances can attach to the surface of the charcoal as it passes through the digestive tract.
The charcoal is then eliminated from the body through the stool.
Because activated charcoal can also bind certain medicines, it may interfere with the absorption of medication taken by mouth.
SPIDER & INSECT BITES
Activated charcoal has traditionally been used in some home remedies for insect and spider bites.
A charcoal paste can be made by mixing Activated Bamboo Charcoal with water and applying it to the affected area.
IMPORTANT
Do not rely on charcoal as the sole treatment for a suspected venomous or dangerous spider bite. Seek medical attention if the bite causes significant pain, increasing swelling, tissue damage, fever, breathing difficulties or other concerning symptoms.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
Avoid inhaling charcoal dust.
Activated charcoal may cause black stools, constipation, nausea or vomiting. It can also interfere with the absorption of medicines taken by mouth.
Seek medical attention for:
- Suspected poisoning or overdose
- Severe or persistent diarrhoea
- Repeated vomiting
- Signs of dehydration
- Blood in the stool
- Severe abdominal pain
- A suspected venomous or dangerous bite
- Difficulty breathing or other signs of a serious allergic reaction
For serious symptoms, poisoning or overdose, always seek professional medical assistance.
